Subliminal Racism
The GOP effing scares me.
Apparently Palin is preaching to the choir, and with the mob mentality, someone yelled "Kill him" when speaking about Obama. And the woman did nothing.
So we want to get a petition out decrying the hate speech.
Hilary wrote a pretty good one. But I feel funny about having it published though. Should they be the ones to write it, or should I?
Am I assigned the duty because I am The Minority?
Do I automatically know more about racism or can feel more connected to it because I am a Minority?
I've never been racially profiled, or been victim of a hate crime or been called a derogatory name for my ethnicity. So do I score a few points lower on the Minority scale. Am I a bit more white that way?
Maybe I should email Carmen of racialicious and ask her advice. This is weirding me out.
I read the petition, and it is good.
But I guess good in a CNN kind of way. Satisfactory, but not truly calling out on bs.
I would really like to improve upon it though.

The Media Never Ceases to Amaze Me

On Friday, September 26, the end of a week in which thousands of copies of Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West -- the fear-mongering, anti-Muslim documentary being distributed by the millions in swing states via DVDs inserted in major newspapers and through the U.S. mail -- were distributed by mail in Ohio, a "chemical irritant" was sprayed through a window of the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton, where 300 people were gathered for a Ramadan prayer service. The room that the chemical was sprayed into was the room where babies and children were being kept while their mothers were engaged in prayers. This, apparently, is what the scare tactic political campaigning of John McCain's supporters has led to -- Americans perpetrating a terrorist attack against innocent children on American soil.
This act is despicable. But what enrages me even more is that I spent an entire workday looking for news to publish other than the stupid bailout, and the only thing I got was the Alberto Gonzalez trial. In no mainstream media outlet was there mention of this hate crime.
I searched in google news, and only a handful of news outlets reported it. It happened Friday and I got wind of it Tuesday. Even in Dayton, Ohio's local paper, where it took place, it was somewhat hidden. It was on the Huffington Post, but hidden as well. I had to enter Dayton Ohio in the search engine to find it. Couldn't this take the spot of one of the many inane Sarah Palin posts on the front page? There was an article questioning whether she had lip liner tattooed, for God's sake.
This election season has shown me the absurdity and stupidity of the U.S. mainstream media, but this takes the cake. I am actually inclined to write a letter to the New York Times about this.

Desesperacion
Siento que he perdido mi mejor amigo. Bueno, mas bien, lo tengo, pero he perdido confianza en el. Mucha confianza. Era mi mejor amigo e contaba todo a el pero ahora no lo quiero contar tanto, para que no se canse de mi y para que no se vaya.
Creo que me he traumado un buen. No se que hacer. Me siento sin poder. Parece como un relacion danoso, pero no quiero causar mas conflicto porque con trabajo e conseguido que el me hable. Que manera de vivir es esto? No me imagino una vida sin tristeza o ansiedad.

Traffic in Mexico
Sometimes I feel helpless.
It's about 3/4 into the year, and Mexico has already surpassed the number of deaths related to drug violence that occurred in 2007. I wanted to create a petition to lobby for change, but then the question is: Who do I direct this to? The government has at times less power than drug cartels. And the Mexican police is a joke. How do you negotiate with drug traffickers whose main form of communication is violence?
This is the main reason I refuse to engage in recreational drugs. I refuse to support an industry where people are terrorized, kidnapped and killed just so some rich white kids can get high.
